A native of New York, Dr. Nahed pursued his undergraduate studies in Neuroscience at UCLA, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors and garnering the department's Highest Honors. He later attended the Yale School of Medicine, where he was granted the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship and graduated with honors. Dr. Nahed completed his neurosurgery residency at the renowned Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the MGH Cancer Center under the guidance of Drs. Daniel Haber and Shyamala Maheswaran.
In 2011, Dr. Brian Nahed was recruited to join the MGH Department of Neurosurgery, MGH Brain Tumor Center, and Harvard Medical School. His research endeavors revolve around pioneering a groundbreaking blood-based test for diagnosing and monitoring brain tumors. Collaborating with Drs. Haber, Maheswaran, and Stott, Dr. Nahed produced the initial evidence of circulating tumor cells in the blood of glioblastoma patients. Supported by NIH funding, Drs. Nahed and Stott helm a laboratory dedicated to developing the inaugural blood test for individuals afflicted with brain tumors.
